Shortlist announced for 8th edition of Joan Miró Prize 2023

The jury has announced the 5 nominated artists for the 8th edition of the Joan Miró Prize, which is awarded to artists at a breakthrough stage in their careers regardless of age, gender or cultural identity. The prize pays tribute to the extraordinary work of Joan Miró, his significant contribution to modern art and his life-long support of younger artists. The nominated artists for the 2023 edition of the Joan Miró Prize are Tala Madani, Tuan Andrew Nguyen, Frida Orupabo, Mika Rottenberg and Haegue Yang.

The artists nominated for the prize have been chosen by a group of jury members with an active career in the art world as Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation, United Arab Emirates; Katerina Gregos, Artistic Director of the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST), Athens; Haeju Kim, Artistic Director of the Busan Biennale 2022, South Korea; Ann-Sofi Noring, former Co-Director of Stockholm’s Moderna Museet in Sweden and currently board member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and Marko Daniel, Director of the Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona, and President of the jury.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), one of the world’s leading international philanthropic organisations, supports the Fundació Joan Miró for the 8th edition of the Joan Miró Prize.

The winning artist will be announced on 31 May 2023 during a ceremony to be celebrated at the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona.
